True Values and Good Will

I remember when I was four years old. I liked to throw stones or rocks. Sometimes I would throw them at the wooden steps just to listen to the sound and watch them bounce. Little did I know that, I was doing damage to myself. I became a rock slinging brat. But I did not know what that was either so I keep doing it.

Then one day a very kind lady who was a friend of my mother came down the stairs and asked my name and where I lived. She was kind enough to take me home, where she spoke to mom, after which they both spoke to me. They explained that I was doing was the wrong thing to do, how it could hurt someone, that could also hurt me. That was the beginning of a very good friendship, and a course in living by values of merit in doing good and to having good will.

As I got older mom gave me an assignment that I have never forgotten. One day she asked, "Will you help me to take care of your brothers and sisters?" I was the third child, of six and I thought, Wow! I promised I would. Then she explained, I do not mean of your family alone, because every person is a brother and sister. Little did I know what that meant then, but I have had 63 year to learn what that meant.

Each one is a child of God. We are not animals unless we think and act like animals do. We have a higher purpose and a destiny that is forged on the anvil of every day in the fiery billows of the world.

“We are not here to get what we want. We are here to become what we aught to be; as we become more and more what we aught to be, we attract to ourselves all that we need.”

The world is filled with people who have never learned that throwing rocks can hurt themselves. I learned that, “All the ugliness or good we see in others is a reflection of our own nature.” “Oh say what is truth it’s the fairest gem.” Title of a Hymn. Solomon was a great judge. The greatest Judge was crucified and it is a wonder anyone finds justice with the lack of good will and high moral standards in public places.
